the jumper conundrum

27/08/2013

Finished packing, ready to go!!!! I CAN'T GO TO SLEEP IT'S 11PM ALREADY BUT I'M WIDE AWAKE HOW IS THIS HAPPENING I AM FARING OFF 4 HOURS SLEEP ATM

Today:

  1. Pretty amusing trying to pack and having an existential crisis deciding between three jumpers.
Friend from St Kents (Darryn) said: "bring one that'll catch lachie's attention" and Mei said "anything that can help you seduce lachy" so i think we have a common theme running here... My mum was getting hilariously impatient "GODDAMMIT VICKY JUST CHOOSE THE WARMER ONE " "but it doesn't go with any of my outfitsssssssss!!!!"
  2. Did my Pecha Kucha presentation in TOK today and people laughed at my slides which was good. It got to the slide with Meilin and I could see her reaction of pure horror and everyone was laughing so much that I couldn't even get through my sentence because I couldn't stop myself from laughing as well IT KILLED ME
  3. Pretty interesting discussion today at morning tea/free period with Meilin about the pitfalls of the fashion industry and the modelling image and what not. I feel as if debating this year has really improved my ability to convey my ideas more coherently in conversations! YAY

GOODBYE FRIENDS, SEE YOU IN 5 DAYS! (i know, what will you all do now that you don't have your daily source of morning entertainment!)

1. Choir Concert with St Kents and Dio
I'm just.... I'm sorry. I really am.

But.
LACHIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

*weeps tears of inferiority and admiration*

We had our choir concert today and okay first thing that happened was Ms Giles came into our warm up room and was like "are you ready? Lachie and his choir are having a bit of a party outside the hall" and I had the sudden overwhelming need to collapse ugh. And then we went into the hall and HE WAS STANDING THERE IN ALL HIS GLORY AT THE ENTRANCE and I wanted to throw up omfg

Okay so there was this moment of panic where I made eye contact with him and in my head it was basically like "OH SHIT. OH SHIT HE KNOWS. HE'S READ MY BLOG. HE KNOWS I'VE BEEN STALKING HIM. OH NO OH CHRIST"

I've basically perfected the art of staring at someone without them noticing you. I'm not sure when this is going to be useful in my life but I'm sure it'll come in handy sooner or later.

HE'S JUST REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND HE HAS PERFECT JAW-ENHANCING STUBBLE AND HE'S STUPID AND I WANT TO PUNCH HIS STUPID FACE OH MY GOD

At the start of every programme, the choir directors had to do a little introduction of the pieces and he recited the english translation of the song lyrics which was basically him reciting poetry and I felt faint. DO YOU KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO HOLD IN A SHIT EATING GRIN FOR 2 HOURS OH MY GODDDDDDD. I think there were multiple points during the night where I had to bite my cheeks and think about exams or some other depressing shit to fucking GET A HOLD OF MYSELF. I also think I hyperventilated at least once. All in good fun....

I think I'm scaring you (reader) with all this obsessing I'm really sorry you should know that I don't take myself seriously and that there is no need to worry about my sanity and iM PRETTY SURE IF I GOT A FUCKING BOYFRIEND THIS WOULD ALL BE OVER LIKE /THAT/.

It's a wonder why I'm single -______-

Oh I saw Kelly and Sarah H from dio and Darryn and I was pretty socially awkward with all of them haha. Kelly was trying to wave at me from where she was sitting and this was during Lachie's introduction of his pieces so obviously I was focusing my full attention on him and Eliza had to tap me like, 6 times and point in the direction of Kelly before I actually saw her! And I ran into Sarah when the concert ended and it was awkward because she was walking out and leaving and so was I and I had a brief conversation with her about how fucking talented she is and I didn't really have much else to say so I didn't want to have to walk with her to my car (as lovely as she is, I was avoiding social awkwardness) so I had to turn back and go into the hall. FML. Oh, and I saw Darryn while I was trying to look for Kelly at the end, and so I was really caught off guard and it was a bit awkward and I felt pretty bad about it cuz I seemed like a social incompetent. He's such a cutie patootie (in a platonic way) when he sings in choir omfg it's actually the best thing!!! HE IS CONSTANTLY GRINNING SO HE LOOKS LIKE HE'S ENJOYING HIMSELF SO MUCH and I think I know now why I was able to remember him and recognize him at MUNA. WHO EVEN SMILES THAT MUCH OMG i should start doing that too tbh.

Speaking of Darryn, in the car I texted him about how I was 110% in love with his choir director and how I expected him to be my wingman and somehow introduce me to Lachie while we're in Dunedin and he agreed but I don't think he realises that I'M FULLY FUCKING SERIOUS!!!!!!

Wow, from making eye contact to possibly even introducing myself within a week THINGS ARE MOVING SO FAST, ALMOST AT AN EXPONENTIAL RATE. WHO KNOWS MAYBE BY NEXT MONTH I'LL BE MRS CRAIG WE'LL SEE

2. I finished my TOK Pecha Kucha presentation but didn't really take it seriously so these kind of slides happened:

I was laughing a lot while doing this can u tell???

3. Tswift the critic

it got me so bad omfg i am the same taylor, i am the same.

and speaking of taylor:

POOR BRUNO MARS, U LITTLE MUNCHKIN

oh ps I probably won't find time to post tomorrow (I'm sleeping really late today so that I'll be sufficiently tired for tomorrow that I'll want to go to bed at 9 and thus have a full 8 hours sleep for my 6:30am check in for DUNEDIN!!!!!!!!)

No, i'm not blogging while I'm at dunedin. Maybe a quick update off my phone if I end up making eye contact with Lachie or something, but otherwise, not gonna bother!

don't make a show about men in suits and expect me not to want to watch it

25/08/2013

I'm in the process of writing my ball post!!! IT'S GETTING THERE I SWEAR!
Here is the link to my 17/08/2013 post (saturday after ball, quarterfinals debate)

Today was rather shit for reasons I won't get into. Happier points:

1. I started watching Suits. I have seen 3 episodes. I'm rather angry at myself for subjecting myself to this fab show because I know I'm going to have to keep watching now. Sueyeon's ecstatic that I have given in, ha. EVERYONE ON THE SHOW IS SO WITTY AND SMART, AND AS MEILIN WOULD SAY IT "GOALS".

2. It got weird when I was making breakfast (lunch) and I started talking to myself like I was in a cooking show. To be honest, it was a pretty entertaining cooking show that I momentarily hosted. At least, to me, anyway.

3. I DID A LITTLE FB DROP IN FOR LACHIE AND FOUND OUT THAT HE'S LOOKING FOR A NEW ROOMMATE AND I HAVE NEVER FELT SO CREEPY IN MY LIFE.

yellow highlights are things that made me go "ur a dork and i love u"
red underlines are all the evidence I have piece together to map out where he lives.

dont judge me.

"Lachie! Lachie! Where art thou Lachie?!" - a modern day tragic romance between an above-awesome girl and an older, really hot man.

I hate myself but I also think I'm hilarious so life is very difficult because I CONTINUE TO DO THESE SORTS OF THINGS.

Also, tomorrow is the choir concert so I'll try to gather the courage to ask him to have my babies.
Or I'll say hi, idk.

the immortalization of negativity through your choice to blog

Boy, I'm really putting off my homework and catching up with all my other blog posts arent I? This isn't a three things post, this is just something that I feel like I should say.

Sometimes when I'm doing my three things posts, and it's been a rather shit day or something not-so-great has happened, I'll mention it briefly in the post. Sometimes I don't even mention it at all. Since I've been doing this project, I haven't written one fully negative blog post, not once. And often I feel like I'm censoring myself or cheating myself by not acknowledging the shit parts of my life, which to be fair, aren't very that much of a pressing matter for me either way. It feels like I'm lying to myself and I'm lying to you, the handful of readers who actually keep up with my daily ramblings. But I definitely feel tempted to write separate blog posts where I can just rant, as if it'll be therapeutic - as if I'll feel better about the situation because I was "able to get it off my chest".

Truth is, what I've realised today (after my very long and very emotional rant on twitter) is that my venting usually makes me feel even shittier about what happened. Actually, I knew this a long time before but usually ignored this thought and would rant about it anyway. I get all riled up typing about something, or talking about it, when usually if I just don't think about it I can forget it quite easily.

I also feel as if by writing it down and focusing on it, I've immortalized it. When I write about the positive things of my day, I've immortalized those as well. By writing about happy events I remember them better. That's why I'm pretty pissed off at myself for STILL not writing about the ball, because the reason I wanted to blog about it was so that I could get those things solidified into my memory.

If writing about the things that upset you in life helps you, is therapeutic for you, clears your head, then good. Do it. If you feel that if you don't talk about them, you're bottling those negative emotions up, then yes, write about them, let them out. But if you're like me, and realise that you actually feel WORSE after venting, then stop yourself next time. It's better to forgive (others, or sometimes yourself), forget (but learn from your mistakes), and move on.

In the Dirt of the Earth

In the dirt of the earth I lie
covered in moss and daisies.
They blanket me and so I rise
against hard arms of gnarled roots.

Safe in my bed
under white covers in which
I hide and close my eyes but
no darkness is granted.
Because the sunlight still streams --
still sings, and sighs contently
onto where I lie
in the dirt of the earth.

In the dirt of the earth I dine
eating the patches of green.
With my friends in the wilderness
here to keep me warm and brave.

My friends, they dance
around the open flames. Flickering,
fade.
Here our ghosts feed on smoke,
yes, charred remains on burnt tongues
tasting the hollows filled with grey
in the dirt of the earth.

In the dirt of the earth I sleep
breathing deep into the snoring sun.
Not even the whispers of beetles
can wake my claying skin.

In the dirt of the earth I dreamt of days
where the dirt of the earth
did not stain my face
but washed away the ash
that painted my cheeks
not red, not green, not white,
but grey.

In the dirt of the earth I rest
my bones, but the winds of spring cry life
as though my heart could still warm to the home
that I found, not in dirt of the earth
but the dirt of this ground.

1. Had debating semifinals today. Unfortunately we didn't win, but I'm surprisingly okay with it! I'm really happy with getting into semifinals and I think getting into finals would be way too nerve-wracking anyway. It was fun though. The moot was "this house would not give organs to non-organ donors" and we were affirming so it was a bitch of a motion. Much of their case was about the principle of freedom of choice and the way that some people can't donate organs if their religion or beliefs go against it, and that the model would be discriminating against all those people because it would be forcing them to disregard their beliefs. It was sorta difficult to argue against freedom of choice and the only way we could really say anything in response to it was that they had the choice to put their beliefs in front of their decision to possibly need an organ in the future to save their lives, and they could choose to put their life before those beliefs instead. So yeah, difficult.

Before the adjudication, we shook hands with the Glendowie team, and ended up talking with them for a bit which was nice. Jade and Izzy (who are in our team and came to watch) came down from the audience to join us.

Apparently when I was doing my speech, I sauntered up to the podium in what Jade and Izzy called a "swag walk", tossed my notes to the side, and started my speech by looking down and dramatically looking up. See, I'm conscious of what I'm doing but it feels natural to me because it feels like a performance and all the  "swag" stuff is just me trying to hype myself up and make sure my confidence overpowers my nervousness. It was pretty amusing looking over to where Jade and Izzy were sitting and seeing them pissing themselves laughing over my presentation -- Nadia and Cerys are already quite used to my dramatics haha. I kind of love it when I reject the point of informations with a "NO" and I can hear people laughing.  I know that there isn't any maliciousness behind the laughter, so there aren't any hard feelings. I guess I just enjoy entertaining people and hearing them laugh. The podium was really low, on a table, so I had to do this awkward lean thing on it in order to read my notes, which made me look super chill and "idgaf"ish like the bad ass motherfucker I am.

Other points: Nadia couldn't pronounce "organ donor" and she said "oh-gan dor-nor" about seven times and she'd try to correct herself and at one point it was like "ohgan dornor, ugh sorry, OHGAN DORNOR... OHGAN DORNOR.. LET ME TRY AGAIN, OHGA-- ORGAN DONOR." and i was trying so hard not to laugh but my god it was brilliant.

This guy on the other team was someone Izzy knew because he was Jewish, and in his speech, he dropped, -- what Izzy calls -- "THE J-BOMB" by saying that he could personally relate to the motion due to his religious beliefs. And Izzy apparently had the most facepalm-smh reaction ever when he said that hahaha.

2. As Izzy and I were getting a ride back to her house by Mrs Palmer, we saw this group of teens in city while waiting for a red light, and we were just staring at them and making fun of their fashion choices (maroon ribbed socks with maroon shorts, really?) and then as we were staring, one of the boys turned around and saw Izzy staring and basically had this face of amused what the fuckness where his eyes bulged out and omfg it was the funniest thing because she realised that she knew the guy and he recognized her and as we drove away his face just remained in that position and he kept staring at us hahahaa

3. At Izzy's she made me the most heavenly icecream sundae with cashew salted caramel ice cream and chocolate fudge or something covered in berry sauce and frozen berries and blueberries and with a piece of waffle and it was DIVINE. Also, I ate all her beef jerky. Sorry. I hadn't ever tasted beef jerky before! That shit's good. Oh and we did work for TOK Pecha Kucha of course. Raaya was supposed to also be there but we stayed at debating for too long and Raaya had been waiting at Izzy's house for half an hour and had to leave because there were places to go, people to see, etc.

beetle zombies

22/08/2013

Today had a few shitty parts in it (I failed my maths test-- no seriously, failed.), but as I told Ruby today, it's always great to focus on the good things of your day rather than the bad!!

1. I wrote a poem! It's called "In the dirt of the earth" and I might post it on blogspot in a couple days once the initial pride of actually creating something wears off and I get a less biased perspective on it to see if it's shit or not lol. Kinda hesitant about actually posting it anywhere because there's a lot of assonance in it, which is only effective when it's read out loud and with emphasis on the right words... Also, do you think it would be weird if I just gave it to my english teacher and was like "yo could u help a brada out thx"???

there is a bit in the poem where I needed to mention a bug so I thought "hmm beetles?" and just for fun I searched up the symbolism of beetles and:
"The ancient Egyptians saw how these beetles lived and emerged from dry ground and used this as a metaphor for the entombing and resurrection of their mummies. In this way the beetle became the Egyptian symbol for rebirth, the ability to be reborn."
and I was like OMFGGG!!!!!!!!! Because that part of my poem where I mention it is actually talking about death (it sounds morbid but the whole poem is about the transitions of birth to death) and in the next line I talk about clay skin and clay skin is like dry ground that beetles lived and emerged from and I just AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH UNINTENTIONAL AWESOME MOTIFS

2. I had no homework tonight, thus the sudden impulse to write a poem. I was actually supposed to do SAT prac and write my ball blog post but alas....

3. In free period, Cerys, Cathee and I chilled in the couch seating area of the library and Cerys and I just did French by reading through it together and it was so much less intimidating than what we do in class and it made me feel better about french lol. I think we should do it more often tbh!

Extra: in addition to writing the poem, I also spent like, an hour lost on Cracked.com and I read this article that profoundly affected me and SHH JUST READ IT (you probably already have considering it's nearly a year old)

http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/

Let's say that the person you love the most has just been shot. He or she is lying in the street, bleeding and screaming. A guy rushes up and says, "Step aside." He looks over your loved one's bullet wound and pulls out a pocket knife -- he's going to operate right there in the street. You ask, "Are you a doctor?" The guy says, "No." You say, "But you know what you're doing, right? You're an old Army medic, or ..." At this point the guy becomes annoyed. He tells you that he is a nice guy, he is honest, he is always on time. He tells you that he is a great son to his mother and has a rich life full of fulfilling hobbies, and he boasts that he never uses foul language. Confused, you say, "How does any of that fucking matter when my (wife/husband/best friend/parent) is lying here bleeding! I need somebody who knows how to operate on bullet wounds! Can you do that or not?!?" Now the man becomes agitated -- why are you being shallow and selfish? Do you not care about any of his other good qualities? Didn't you just hear him say that he always remembers his girlfriend's birthday? In light of all of the good things he does, does it really matter if he knows how to perform surgery? In that panicked moment, you will take your bloody hands and shake him by the shoulders, screaming, "Yes, I'm saying that none of that other shit matters, because in this specific situation, I just need somebody who can stop the bleeding, you crazy fucking asshole."

a drop between green and blue

21/08/2013

1. performed my first ever titration in chemistry - I wasn't successful but it was pretty interesting!!! my solution stayed at red for 20 minutes and at the end I just poured in a shit ton of NaOH and it still wasn't going red so I did this 5 more times until it suddenly went blue and I was like FUCKING FINALLY (even though it wasn't the ideal green).

2. ran into Grace during lunch so we did an impromptu tutoring session (which I always find to be very interesting because I like discussing English lol I'm a nerd).

3. in bio, our teacher gave us ridiculous kindergarden-activity sheets to do and I was like "uhhhhhhhh no not wasting my time on that!" so I did the practice exam for bio olympiad (of which I did the test in p5, 6, and after school) instead. Mrs O was pretty crack up telling us how the people who wrote the bio olympiad test paper were either losers with no social skills and bad at doing anything ncea-related, or fat and strict.

speaking of bio olympiad (this isn't a '3 things' because it's not very positive) but oH MY GOD THAT SHIT IS RIDICULOUS AND WAY TOO LONG!!!!!!!! I couldn't exactly miss the second to last choir practice (and last 2-hour practice since friday mornings are so short) so I got Mrs O to let me (and Ling and Nicole who had stuff afterschool as well) do the exam in p5/6 and it was pretty perfect because I had a free in p6 and I only missed half of TOK. Thing was that we had to do the exam in the little bio office between two bio classrooms and they were SO NOISY and the room smelt like rotting orange peels and it was basically not very nice conditions. In addition to that, the test was ballistically difficult and I didn't really know what I was doing 80% of the time.

my body has become accustomed to 4 hours of sleep???

19/08/2013

well shit long time no see, aye blogger? Okay so here's the deal, I'll continue to write daily blog posts and I'll go back and catch up on ball/debating/etc later on when I have time. Because trust me there is a shitton to write about.

1. woke up at 9am (free period first period) and got to school in the nick of time at 9:25! (went to bed last night at 4:30 finishing my science rotary application which was pretty terrible)

2. worked out a difficult question in chemistry and felt SO FUCKING SATISFIED FROM IT OH MY GOD U WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW EXCITED  I GOT DOING IT

3. supermarkets FINALLY restocking parmesan bagels and today I had a parmesan bagel with salsa, roast beef, camembert cheese with a piece of shoulder bacon placed on top which made it melt. Then I stirfried some left over roast chicken, a bit of onion, a mushroom, some basil, worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, and put that on top of the bacon. Then on top of that I had some baby lettuce leaves, and on the top bagel half a spread of mayonnaise. Christ it was good.

is it sad that my longest point was the one about food -_____-

extra #4 feat. lachie: YAY HE'S BACK okay so, cathee linked me/copy pasted the status of this boy who she did perc with who was also in st kents choir, and:

Big Sing 2013

IT'S MY BIG SING BLOGPOST WHAT THE FUCK WOAH IT'S UP WHAT'S HAPPENING OH MY GOD VICKY ACTUALLY DID IT SHE GOT HER SHIT TOGETHER AND COPIED OUT THE POSTS FROM HER JOURNAL YAY FELICITATIONS!!!!

Okay so for the most part I'm going to copy directly what I wrote down in my diary there. Warning there is quite a bit of embarrassing Lachie fangirling (don't hurt me!!!!). I will post my present day comments in bracketed italics.

I didn't do a post on Day 1 so I'll just give a brief run down:

Day 1:
  • flight down, seated next to millie and sophia, but swapped so that I got the aisle seat, and across the aisle was vivian (z). Talked about school and extracurriculars and I LEARNT THE CUP SONG!!!!! Which must have annoyed everyone else on the flight hahahaha. Also played iphone charades app with vivian's phone and we were really noisy. EGGS were sitting right behind us!!
  • got to dunedin (it's really not that pretty of a city tbh) and our motel rooms weren't ready so we all had to pile our luggage into tibbles' and the yr9s' room, and we headed out to the church that we'd be performing in later that night to rehearse
  • rehearsal was a bitch and it was really cold in the church

  • it was actually warmer outside than inside the church wtf
  • walked around trying to find the octagon, gave up, and ended up just eating subway
  • got the most rip off macchiato ($4.50 for HALF A SMALL CUP) from a cute little coffeeshop
  • went to the supermarket and got food for the week (ended up being too much food)
  • got back to the motel and hung out with everyone in the yr9 apartment and watched masterchef and it was nice and relaxing and good bonding time
  • went to choir dinner at this little turkish place that had shit food tbh (flinty ily but daaaamn who even recommended that place to you....) but good company :3
  • performed in the church to a huge audience of ... four people... (more than we were expecting ngl)
  • got back to the motel, slept at 10pm

11:24pm 29/08/2013 Day 2 of the Big Sing

Alas it is day 2 of our 5 day trip, and today can ultimately be summed up in one word: FUCKING-STRESSFUL. To be fair, it wasn't very stressful until around 4:30pm when we fucke up and ran late to a session (literally.. ran!!!) but I'll go into that later.

Last night I had a pretty shit sleep. We went to bed at around 10pm and were too pussy about the possibility of getting caught to actually man up and watch supernatural at 10:30 like we had planned to. And tired.

I woke up like, 4 times during the night which sucked. These motel rooms are surprisingly nice and warm! Two flat screen TVs in every complex, even! This morning I woke up way before 7 and wasn't even tired. I had a huge breakfast of crunchy nut, a banana, a crumpet with nutella, and a coffee (don't ask me why I thought it was important for me to record down what I had for breakfast in Dunedin, i have no idea what was going through my mind there....)

We then went to the opening ceremony in the town hall. As we were waiting outside with all the other choirs, Lachie was also out there and omfg ok HE WAS WEARING A FUCKING SCARF OH SWEET JESUS HAVE MERCY ON MY FRAGILE SOUL!!! I can't deal with boys in scarves omg it's like he's purposely fucking with me (maybe he knows!!...?) I inconspicuously got a snapchat photo of him which I save and will treasure forever. (Okay I am SO SORRY BUT THIS SHIT IS GOING TO BE HILARIOUS IN ABOUT A YEARS TIME)

The opening ceremony had an acapella group from Otago and they were dressed as clowns and it was like WTF? Ok so at lunch we had a performance in a church and it was pretty good.

At lunch we went to velvet burger and I spent $23 and felt so ripped off and regretful afterwards that I sold Anty my wedges. NEVER AGAIN!! I didn't even get time to eat my burger until at afternoon tea, where we went back to our motel room and chilled -- possibly too much because before we knew it, it was already 4:20 and we were already late as we were supposed to be at the town hall for session 2 which started at 4:30. So, we ran. I MEAN, LEGITIMATELY, RAN. Sprinted blocks with my brick-filled country road bag slung across my shoulder and my choir skirt bunched up in one hand, trying in vain to hold my skirt together and not flash everyone on the street as I motherfucking POUNDED THAT PAVEMENT!!! When we got there, Victoria and Rachel (slightly ahead of us) had already made it into the session, but Viv Q and I were stuck outside until the choir finished. By then I was grossly red faced, sweating, and practically hyperventilating my ass off. I was pretty pissed off at myself, NGL, but what's done is done I guess. PS IF LACHIE LOOKS GOOD ON STAGE UNDER UNFLATTERING PERFORMANCE LIGHTING, HE LOOKS 100X BETTER IN DAYLIGHT UGHHHH (ok how did my stream of consciousness even jump to Lachie wtf Vicky)

I was expecting Flinty to give us a huge rage-out for being so late, but since Anty and Gyorgika was late as well, our group of six people faced her together, and she was basically like, "why were you late?" and I decided to just bite the bullet and tell her the truth that we had lost track of time at the hotel and she was super understanding over it and was like "your downtime when you were trying to relax before tonight's performance only made you more stressed, isn't that right?". Rachel and Victoria wanted to make some bullshit excuse about how I had mean period cramps which prevented our whole group from getting to the town hall on time and I was like uhhhh no i think it's probably better if we just tell her what actually happened lol. Anty and Gyorgika were so relieved that we were late as well because they were not only late, but actually in a group of 2 instead of a group of 3 like we had to be at all times.

For dinner break we had to go back to the motel to get my lanyard/tag because I'm an idiot who was not only late but forgot all her shit, so we had to get sushi on the way for dinner. Very tiring but better than running. We were up first in session 3 and this meant we were all quite ready and pumped. Personally I thought we performed rather well! Good, even! Very satisfied when I got off stage, hehe. Felt really engaged and like I did the best I could.

Other highlights:

  • Dilworth got a standing ovation but only their last piece with the Pacifica dancing was outstanding imo
  • St Kents and Wellington were really good. And Kings. I recognized a boy from roskill in the Kings choir! We kept staring at each other through their dancey piece because Saints were in the first row and thus in direct line of sight with the people on the stage. Everywhere I looked, it seemed like there were guys staring at me and I was feeling rather exposed lol. I'm obviously biased because all my favourite choirs have boys in them...
  • Told mum to watch livestream but she missed us and only saw from 3rd choir in. How sad...
  • At night, roommates and I had a pretty good time gossiping after lights out. Viv and I discussed our respective Year 8 boy dramas and awkwardness with guy friends at a young age haha.

30/08 Day 3 of Big Sing 11:57pm

Woke up late at 8:30 because we didn't have to meet until 10am. Turns out that we can't actually get ready properly in that amount of time and we were rushing out the door at 9:59am today. After the morning session, Victoria, Q, Sophia, JJ, and Grace and I had lunch in this Japanese place that took WAY too long to get us our food. Seafood udon FTW!! Next we had a rehearsal which was pretty intense and afterwards a bunch of us decided to get changed. This was happening during a session which meant choirs were performing and/or getting ready. We naively were talking very loudly as we descended the stairs in the town hall building, and LOW AND BEHOLD there was a (guest) choir rehearsing right at the bottom of one flight of stairs. We quickly shut up and as we descended to the next level, it was... you guessed it... Lachie and the Kents choir, prepping for their performance. ABSOLUTELY MORTIFYING EXPERIENCE OF EYE CONTACT WITH LACHIE SINCE I WAS AT THE FRONT OF THE GROUP. They were blocking the exit so we tried going through another way but it was a dead end, so we had to shamefully return to where the choir was and go through the proper exit. OMG kill me tbh.

Oh speaking of St Kents, I've been texting Darryn a fuckton and we were planning of meeting up today but it didn't happen because we both had short breaks with rehearsals. I saw him in the morning and then again later in the town hall after afternoon tea where he was a total sweetie and came over to where my choir was sitting to chat. I told him about the mortification of walking in on their choir and he was like "Hey I should introduce you to Lachie right now" and I don't believe I have EVER said "NO" that many times with that much panic in my voice at any one point of my life!!! OK, since we are already on the topic of Lachie, I just want to note down that he was wearing fuckin beige/mustard chinos that matched his beige fuckin SATCHEL and he also had a grey coat and scarf and GLOVES UGH HOW DARE HE?!?! WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT UGHUHGUHGUHGHHHHHHHH!! (okay reading back on this I actually cannot stop laughing IT TOOK ME ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO TYPE OUT THAT BIT ABOUT HIS CLOTHES BECAUSE I WAS ON THE FLOOR PISSING MYSELF HAHAHAH JESUS FUCKING CHRIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME THAT LITERALLY WAS A THIRD OF A PAGE IN MY DIARY JUST FLIPPING OUT OVER HIS GODDAMN OUTFIT OH MY GOD I NEED HELP)

At afternoon tea I went with Anty and Victoria to food court to look for Anty's bottle and as we were walking back to the town hall, /lachie was walking from the other way towards us and I nearly shat myself because EYE CONTACT!!!!!!!!!! I panicked because I wanted to seem like I was super non-committal walking past him so I started discussing the pros and cons of french braids for performance as we passed him OMFG I AM SUCH A LOSER????? The sun was setting behind him and everything was ridiculous.... I hate myself. (ok i literally just had a whole passage on making eye contact with him I'm not sure whether I want to punch myself more or check into a mental facility.)

Our performance (which my mum watched and texted "Great!!!" afterwards, yay!) was okay in my opinion but I didn't feel as good as I did after the first session. A part of that had to do with Flinty's negative, stressed attitude in our prep time. At dinner, I went with Anty and Gyorgika to this Italian restaurant but as we were walking there, we became engulfed by people from Burnside and it turns out that we were going to the same restaurant as their WHOLE CHOIR! The restaurant ended up kicking us out because they couldn't deal with the number of people, and we went roaming for another place. We wandered into a bar, got kicked out for being under 18, went into a Jap place, saw Flinty + co, and GAPPED IT, and ended up in the same restaurant that I went to for lunch.... -___-

Last Lachie point: as we left the town hall he was right behind me and I nearly fainted and Sophie was like WTF. When I checked my phone and turned on the internet, I got an influx of snapchats (22) and on FB I saw that Nicole watched our Big Sing performance and Cathee, Jo, and Cherry were watching the latest sessions as well!!! I felt SOOOO supported and grateful for my friends, aw. I was legitimately so overwhelmed! I can't believe they watched the livestreams! Lol apparently the cameras were filming audience members during the breaks between choirs and zooming up in on people's phones where they were playing candy crush, or zooming in on their text message hahahahha.

Jason from Kings (the guy from roskill) fb msg'd me asking if I was at Big Sing and I said yes and we texted for quite a bit. Kings is staying in the same hotel as St Kents!!! Might hang out with Jason and/or Darryn tomorrow. OH LOL DARRYN TEXTED ME ASKING IF I WANTED TO GO RUNNING WITH HIM TOMORROW MORNING AND I WAS LIKE HEEEELLLLL NO i ain't running for nobody!!!! Elaine was super cute and said they missed me at school. All this fbing and shit was happening as all four of us gathered in our one room after lights out and at first we were talking about shit and gossiping, but we ended up all on our phones taking advantage of the wifi hahaha bless our generation.

Day 3, 31/08/2013 3:20am

Breakfast was fast and we made our flashmob video at 8am, doing a thing where we popped out on the road singing what is this feeling to some boys from Wellington boys college (who are staying next door!!). Took a few takes but end product was good and on my camera. We posted it before the last session which was good. Before that session started, I called Kelly K over and we chatted for a bit which was nice.

Later, in the mass choir rehearsal, Sophie, I, and the rest of our alto section were in the front of the mass alto section, which was cool ut also rather embarrassing! At lunch, I went with Anty and Qiu to the Italian place that we got rejected from yesterday at dinner. Played cellphone-in-the-middle game which totally backfired on me because I was giving Darryn directions to get to the restaurant so that we could meet up. He came eventually and brought a friend (who ditched him) but I'm really glad we got to hang out! It was pretty awkward though because Qiu and Anty didn't know him so it was mainly Darryn and I talking, so I felt bad about leaving them out. Especially because he hadn't had lunch yet and had to wait ages before his order arrived. Had a bit of a discussion about Lachie (of course we did... HE BROUGHT IT UP THOUGH, NOT ME) and how Lachie can be a bit of a dick in his quest to be taken seriously by the students in spite of his young age. (Oh ps if you tell a guy that you're really into guys who wear scarves and then the guy wears a scarf the next time you see him and actually points out that he is wearing a scarf, are you supposed to read into that or....)

Darryn and us parted ways and Anty, Viv and I got back to the motel and chilled for a bit before Gala that night. A few of the year9s and vivian came into our room and it was lots of fun! I ended up doing 5 people's make up and my liquid eyeliner ran dry :( so I had to use my shitty pencil eyeliner which meant everyone had panda eyes by the end of the night hahaha.

Walked over to the town hall and got pizza in a rush along the way. We then took a bunch of proper choir photos in front of the cathedrals and on the steps. One of which is the first photo of this post!

At Gala we performed Hej Igatzisad which was alright and uneventful. At the end it was announced that we got Silver award and it was actually a bit of a shitfest when that happened. The compere hadn't announced our name in the bronze or silver list, and we got SO EXCITED thinking that we had gotten GOLD, and I was actually about to have a heart attack from the excitement, but then right after he said "moving on to the gold awards..." the guy handing out the plaques tapped him on the shoulder and showed him the name on the plaque and the compere was like "apologies, there is one more choir that received Silver -- Saints Alive!" and we were like ".... yay...." -____- honestly, we were expecting silver which was why we were absolutely dying when we thought that we were getting gold, and the drop down to silver was a HUGE anticlimax. If they had announced us in the silver category along with everyone elses, without making us expect a silver award, we would've probably been really proud and celebratory. Too bad.... According to Sophie's friend who is actually the compere's daughter, our choir wasn't even on his paper list at all - not in silver, bronze, or gold. So it wasn't really his fault.

Mass choir piece was super epic and I was standing right at the front which felt rather exposing.

The student function at the end was ... interesting. Very Year9 Socialish. LACHIE CAME TO THE FUCKING SOCIAL and I saw him and Anty and I were like OMG????  (okay do not read this next bit if you don't want to die from second hand embarrassment. No seriously, I can't even write it without cringing and taking 10 second breaks to breathe deeply and stop laughing from shame.) And I was like lol fuck it and took advantage of the crowded body-against-body area to take the piss with anty.... uh.... well... sort of... dance/grind against his back REALLY SUBTLY THOUGH, OKAY. No no but okay get this, I fucking danced with him?? Like, face to face???? MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGH THE NIGHT BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, FRANKLY, I MIGHT AS WELL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY OR ELSE I WOULD REGRET IT AND COMPLAIN ABOUT BEING IN NEAR PROXIMITY AND NOT DOING SHIT, so yeah I danced with him.... Not like, body on body, it wasn't raunchy, take your head out of your hands man! It was totally PG, armwidth away jammin (he fist pumps a lot, it's really funny/sad) and it actually lasted quite a long time. Like, half a song? Bravo Vicky, didn't pass out from the proximity and constant eyecontact...  I FUCKING DANCED WITH HIM WHAT THE FUCKKKK!!!!!!!!!!

Later I found Darryn (their whole choir was still in uniform lol) and we hung out/danced/jammed for a while and went outside for a bit as well. I told him Lachie was there and he physically dragged me to go dance with him so that he could introduce me to him and ACTUALLY FUCKING PUSHED ME INTO HIM AND I WANTED TO SMACK HIM OMG but I refused to do it because NUH-UH I AM NOT GETTING INTRODUCED!! So he danced with lachie a little while and they fist pumped and it was SO lame that it verged on adorable hahahha it was like I was watching a jersey shore episode.... His friend and him came across two of their choir members making out and they FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT and did that "OHHHHHHHHHH SNAAAPPP" thing where they jumped around so I was like lol cya and gapped it. Ran into Jason like, 4 times! Had a bit of a convo where he asked me where I went and then he was like "real different to roskill - we've done well for ourselves!" and I was like oh snap no u didnt!!!

Anty and I even went upstairs to the mezzanine for a bit, where we ran into this guy in westlake who was friends with rachel/libby, etc. Eventually Anty and I went into the St Kents zone where I found Lachie again (oh god i'm so sorry) and danced in proximity and then Darryn saw me and FUCKING INTRODUCED ME TO LACHIE BY SAYING GOD KNOWS WHAT BUT HE POINTED AT ME AND LACHIE LOOKED AT ME AND SMILED AND NODDED AND I WAS LIKE AWWW SHIT DARRYN WHAT DID U FUCKING SAY.... (ps darryn still refuses to tell me what he said and i've bugged him a million times about it and he wON'T TELL ME AND I LITERALLY WANT TO PUKE AT THE THOUGHT OF IT) And we ended up dancing in the same smallish circle and I just ?!?!??!?! omfg?!?!? We did the lame YMCA actions and the fucking gangnam style oh my god everyone (including L) was so into it and I was like ........ ok.

I was tempted to ask for a photo because YOLO but decided to keep some semblance of my dignity (APPARENTLY THERE WAS A GIRL WHO ACTUALLY ASKED FOR A PHOTO WITH HIM, I CAN'T EVEN DEAL OMFG?!?!?!)

Um yeah so it's almost 4am now and we had gotten home at 1am and I've been texting people for the last 2 hours.... There was a fire alarm at 3am at the hotel that Kings and St Kents are staying at hahahahaha everyone came out in their pjs and shit and it was REALLY FUCKING COLD. I jokingly told Darryn to take a photo of Lachie for me in his pjs and he was like "that's pervy" and I was like "nah shh just do it" and he replied "I asked Lachie and he said it was weird" AND I WANT THE FLOOR TO FUCKING SWALLOW ME OH MY GOD I WAS JOKING, WHY WOULD U ACTUALLY TELL A PERSON THAT, THAT IS SO EMBARRASSING SOMEONE KILL ME.

Day 4

  • Tourist Day
  • Really bad hair day so all my photos are a MESS which is rather unfortunate if you're taking photos the whole day
  • Went to the Cadbury Chocolate factory and they unleashed this big tank of melted chocolate and took a photo of our reactions and my face was in the state of extreme shock (I feared for my life when it happened, THERE WAS SO MUCH AND I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO SPLASH ONTO ME AND I WAS THINKING "I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO GET CHOCOLATE OUT OF MY CLOTHES GET IT AWAY!!!) so that's basically what my face conveyed.... Also, everyone else went crazy buying chocolate and I felt bad for not buying anything because I usually have chocolate at home anyway, haha.

  • Climbed Baldwin Street aka steepest street in the world. People who cycle down there are fucking NUTS. It didn't really feel that steep though, just was kinda like climbing a hill. Definitely wasn't as bad as tramping... (ps darryn ran that street on that morning he tried to make me go running with him and it was early morning and -7 degrees... fucking crazy....)
  • Lazer Tag!!! I KILLED it!!!! Consistently got among the highest accuracy and near the top of the leaderboards! Our team won in the end, hehe. SO MUCH FUN!! Everyone on the other team got really irked at me because I kept killing them and using the mirrors muhahhahaha
  • The bus ride around everywhere was really nice and everyone just bonded and talked, and viv z had these nasty ass REALLY SOUR lollies that she filmed a reaction of me eating. IT WASN'T EVEN SOUR, IT WAS REALLY GROSSLY SALTY AND CHEMICALLY BURNT MY TONGUE!!! I had to spit it out eugh :(
  • Harri and Lizey made a (surprisingly nice) song using dumb lyrics that Jess and Brit wrote. It went along the lines of "the sky is green like a gherkin//and I feeel like twerkin// twerk, miley, twerk it" except I'm missing like, 3 lines in between those bits, and theres a whole another verse after that. They made it into the tune of a nice folk song with guitar noodling and harmonies hahahha
  • Went to the beach, planned to have lunch, realised there wasnt much choice in food, drove back to the food court.
  • Went to an old trainstation where we did impromptu performances (well, not really performances, just singing) of For thy greatest blessings, Sanctus, and Benedictus because the acoustics were really pretty. It was so nice just being able to do that out of nowhere!! Everyone came out around the trainstation to see why there was singing going on hahahha. Such a lovely experience that I think I will remember as one of the highlights of the trip :)
  • Flinty shouted us all ice creams from McDonalds, it was awesome.
  • Bus broke down so there was a stressful period where we had to wait for another bus whilst worrying about whether we would make our flight in time.
  • Flew back home, did SAT vocab on the plane with Sophia hahahaha

I miss big sing :( Can't wait till next year!! I hope Lachie doesn't remember me... fuck.

The Republic of NZ

(to do a little catch up)

17/08/2013

1. Debate

This was the day that we had our quarter final debate, where we won against St Kents and progressed onto the semi-finals (which we ended up losing but alg). Being the morning after the ball, and having only 4 hours sleep from the night before (i stayed up late looking through photos of all things...), my mind was predominantly on what happened at the ball and not really on the debate. Despite the lack of sleep, I woke up really easily and was totally coherent, which was surprising. Cerys and I got a ride to Westlake from Ms Palmer, and on the way it was basically nonstop talk about the ball. Same thing happened when we found Nadia at the debating venue.

Oh, Darryn from MUNA was also there since he coaches the team that we were up against in St Kents. Added to the pressure of wanting to beat them!

So, we  were negating, and when we got announced the moot "This house would make NZ a republic" we were like uhhhhhhh whats a republic??????? After much deliberating and dictionary searching, we were all set, and yay in the end we won the debate! I once again sassed the team outta the water with my rejections of point of informations (which is probably quite rude but I honestly cannot help it I JUST GET REALLY EXCITED ON THE PODIUM) and speaking of podiums, THERE WAS A PODIUM!!!!!!! We had never had a debate where there were podiums before! Bless Westlake (that's a lie, I wouldn't shed a tear if westlake burnt to the ground -- i really hate the music department. It's a tall poppy syndrome thing, as Jade enlightened me by saying. THEY WIN EVERYTHING i'm a horrible person I know).

I got best speaker as well, which I was really proud of since it was one of our best debates. Usually our debates are in Tuesday evenings, when we're all tired from school with muddled cognitive skills. Today, because it was morning and we were super awake, we were all so en pointe it was awesome. I thought we earned the win! It was fantastic to learn that we were ranked first due to our no-losses track record!!!

2. Amy's Birthday

It was my brother's girlfriend (amy)'s birthday today and since I didn't have a present for her, I left her a "Happy Birthday Amy <3" on the bathroom mirror (written with a whiteboard pen) in the morning for her to find when she woke up. Later that day when I asked my brother if Amy saw it he said "Oh... haha, yeah. But she thinks it's from me."

MY BROTHER TOOK CREDIT FOR WHAT I DID FOR HIS GIRLFRIEND OMFGGGGGGGGG.

He said it was because they woke up and Amy got a little upset over how he didn't have a present for her in the morning, and then she went to the bathroom and saw it and immediately assumed he did it and was like "QI'ANNNN AWWWWWW" and wasn't upset anymore and he was like "wat" and she was like "YOUR MESSAGE! IN THE BATHROOM! SUCH A NICE SURPRISE!" and since I've done it for his birthdays before he knew what she was talking about and he knew it was from me so he just took credit for it.

3. I literally spent all day on my laptop on facebook looking through ball photos
this is not one of my proudest achievements lets be honest

but it was a week ago so i cant actually remember what other little things happened so DEAL WITH IT

flowershop hideouts

13/08/2013

HI GUYS! So sorry I've been AWOL these two days! I have definitely not been encouraging good habits!!!
Today was a fantastic day! Here's why...

1. Debating

WE WON OUR DEBATE IN THE OCTOFINALS!!! WHICH MEANS WE'RE IN THE QUARTER FINALS NOW!!!!!!!!!! I'M SO EXCITED but also very nervous and apprehensive about versing some uber awesome top 8 team on Saturday THE MORNING AFTER THE BALL!!!!!! But yes we're really excited about the win, except it was a bit of a bittersweet win that was hard to celebrate because everyone felt that they didn't do very well. I totally fucked up my rebuttals hahahaha it was so embarrassing omg shed a tear for me pls. But yes I'm so happy for us!!!

The moot was really difficult for our side: it was along the lines of "This house believes that John Key was wrong in exchanging 230 pokie machines with Skycity to build a Conference Centre" and we were negating.

2. French Speed Dating

This was a happy memory because of how socially awkward and terrible it was ahaha. Okay so it was pretty fun walking there and I'll write about walking back in the next point, but omg when we got there, we were one of the first girl groups (Nadia, Cerys, Elaine, and I). Christ it was awkward!!! While I was there I suddenly realised why people need to drink alcohol at social events - in order to break down the social barriers. basically the girls stood in circles in one area and the guys stood together in another area, and we were all segregated and it was terrible and awkward omg. Poor Mdm Morton tried to get us to talk with this group of guys and we stood there in a circle for about 10 seconds while no one said anything, and I had this mind blank on how to say "what's your name?" (coment tu t'appelle) and then the guys just turned inwards and away frm us and it was like R U D E!!! I saw a guy that recognized me from Winnie's leaving party (heyyyy winnie!) and that was pretty much it. OH THERE WAS THIS GUY I KNEW FROM PRIMARY AND I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HIM AND I FOUND OUT WHO HE WAS AND I FFELT SO GROSS ABOUT THINKING THAT HE WAS HOT BEFOREHAND UGHHHH CURSE PRIMARY SCHOOL!!!! But yeah he has the bluest eyes I have ever seen in my life THEY ARE RIDICULOUSLY BLUE trust me you'd understand if you ever saw them. Yeah, so I sorta took the piss at the beginning with the guy sitting opposite me, to the amusement of Nicole and Elaine, and to the horror of the guy who seemed very uncomfortable with my upfront friendliness hahaha. OMG basically this whole experience was worth it because of the cute-as-fuck french boys that I talked to omg THEY ARE SO ADORABLE I LOVE THEM!!! IM SO IN LOVE IT'S REALLY SAD OMG

3. Walking back to school

Ok so I was walking with Elaine and Nadia (with Ling and Cerys a bit further in front of us) and behind us was this boy who Elaine vaguely knew because she had stalked his fb profile and thought he was hot. So I decided (after much squealing and debate) that I would wingwoman her and I just walked to him and said something along the lines of "HAVE YOU MET ELAINE?! SHE'S THAT ONE OVER THERE. SHE'S REALLY HOT!!!" and the guy seemed so fucking taken aback and confused and omg he didn't say anything and I just gapped it back to where elaine and nadia were, and when I looked back at him, he was nowhere to be seen, and the only hideaway place in that area would have been a flower shop so he LITERALLY HID INTO A FLOWER SHOP TO GET AWAY FROM US HAHHAHAH

AND THEN LATER WHILE WE WERE AT AN INTERSECTION, WE SAW HIM ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, SO HE FUCKING CROSSED THE ROAD TO GET AWAY FROM US I'M SORRY BUT THAT IS HILARIOUS, I DIED.

hammer time

10/08/2013

Today I had the habitat for humanity build! It was pretty disappointing that it rained today, and Celine didn't show up which was a really shady thing to do tbh. We were the only other volunteers there today due to the weather, but all in all it was really fun and totally worth it!!!

1. WE BUILT A DECK!!!!!!! SO MUCH HAMMERING!!! I HAVE CUTS AND GRAZES ALL OVER MY FINGERS AND A BLISTER ON MY RIGHT HAND FROM THE FRICTION OF USING THE HAMMER. I'm so proud!!! A deck may not sound like much but it's actually quite a bit of work, drilling, nailing, measuring, more nailing, SO MUCH NAILING!!!! we got into a bit of a groove where ms warne would drill the hole, then angel would go along and hammer the nail in slightly so that it was positioned, then either jo or i (depending on what side the nail was on) would go and hammer it completely in.

2. At afternoon tea we managed to get Ms Warne to spill some deets about the staff and what happens in the staffroom. Apparently Mrs Principal is quite a sarcastic thing! And we asked about cliques but most just hang out in departments, and there's (what she calls) the "fancy ladies" aka the beautiful, fashionable teachers, but I already knew that. No one really bitches about each other though, she says. Joanna asked if teachers would bitch like "OH MY GOD SHE PUT THAT IN THE CURRICULUM??????" and I nearly pissed myself laughing.

Also, Ms Warne told us about how she got her job but I'm not sure if it's something I can publicly share like this hahaha

(she slept with Lynda)

(just kidding)
(or am i)

3. ms warne: "YOU JUST GOT BY LOVE SERVED!!!!!!!!!!"

"cultivé" n'est pas la même chose que "prétentieux"

TIRED

1. in french there was this bitchy substitute lady and she told me off three times for talking during periods where the whole class was talking/murmuring and it got to the point where I had to muster up all my self control not to sass the fuck out of her omg. by the second time i was just talking loudly to piss her off more BECAUSE I HAVE THE INNATE ADOLESCENT URGE TO REBEL AGAINST SNOOTY AUTHORITY i'm sorry (lol no im not). And she didn't do her fucking job properly and didn't know what topic we were supposed to be writing about that period so she made her own topic up for us instead of letting us work on our french assignments and actually be fucking productive. Then halfway through the period she realised that she hadn't opened the folder full of sheets she was supposed to give us which included the topic and info... -_____-

also when she was explaining her impromptu topic question on whether a "cultured" person needs to be an appreciator of music, she said something along the lines of "people in new zealand are so uncultured and so unsophisticated" and it's like hOW PRETENTIOUS CAN YOU BEEE

and when she left the classroom at one point, the totally quiet class was broken by an "oh my GODDDDDD" groan by me and Joanna and everyone just started bitching  for 20 seconds. We saw her coming back and by the time she was in the class room again we were all silent lol bless

feeling the camaraderie <333

2. bio was hilarious because it was p6 friday and everyone was talking and not doing work and shit. At one point joanna made some sort of joke about chlamydia and Mrs O was like "ALRIGHT YEP 15 MINUTES OF SILENCE" (which no one actually followed)

3. choral showcase was pretty boring but alright. we fucked up "what is this feeling" because we went too fast which forced our accompaniment to stop right at the moment we needed the chord she was supposed to play as a cue for our reentrance in the FINAL PHRASE and it was sooo embarrassing because we all went silent waiting for the cue and some people were still singing but we had to all kind stumble together to get the note together again UGH. but other than that it was good. the second program was definitely better than the first. my mum came in right before we were going to go on for the second program and it was so funny because she wandered in, pulled a chair out of its row, sat down and started looking around for me. I was sitting in the section of chairs to her right and it was quite obvious except she kept looking forwards and i was maniacally waving at her, as you do.

"personality quiz: what your seating position in class says about you!"

8/08/2013

I FORGOT I FORGOT I WAS LYING IN BED AND I SUDDENLY REMEMBERED THAT I HADN'T WRITTEN A BLOG POST AND DECIDED I HAD TO DO THIS FOR MY PEACE OF MIND even though it's going to mean i'm sleep deprived tomorrow....

1. TOK Class

Ms Bell arranged the desks in a different, chaotic, jumbled up way today and so when we went in class, we were all like "wtf". I had a feeling it was a test and was like "THIS IS A TEST!!! IT'S A TEST ISN'T IT" and tried to analyse what each seating position meant (eg if you sat at one of the two desks that faced each other it would mean that you depend on others to feel secure) and so I sat right at the front desk, next to the teacher's desk, facing the rest of the class for kicks because I'd assume that would be the assertive seat u feel??? But then i decided it felt awkward and moved to a front side seat lol. Turns out it was a behavioural test thingy, except it wasn't about our individual personalities represented through where we sit, but instead how we reacted to the situation. I was the person who anaylsed everything and tried to work it out lol, obviously. I'M REALLY ENJOYING HUMAN SCIENCES!!! So much so that I had a brief mini crisis in the middle of TOK when I realised how much I enjoyed human sciences, to the extent that I probably prefer it to the natural sciences, which made me think maybe med isn't the right pathway for me?? but at the same time I also really enjoy biology and chemistry (when I actually can follow chem), I JUST LIKE ALL SUBJECTS UGH?????? Human sciences is so interesting, and y'all know how much I love analysing situations!!!

2. Debating tutorial

So the debating guy Hamish came and gave us freedom fighters a tutorial after school today and I learnt so much! It was so interesting, except I'm pretty sure I won't remember any of it for the debate on Tuesday. In fact I don't even know if I will be chosen to debate from our group on Tuesday. We're in the octo-finals, did I tell you?! That means we were one of the best 16 teams in the senior open division!!! SO PROUD!!! We didn't lose a single debate, can you believe it?! The workshop today just put into more organized and technical terms the things we kind of already do, but it was definitely worth it! I totally expected Hamish to be more of an asshole due to SooKyung's negative experience with him but he was actually really nice! HE'S SO TALL OMG IT FREAKED ME OUT BECAUSE I WAS SITTING DOWN AND HE CAME AND STOOD IN FRONT OF ME AND HE WAS LITERALLY TWO TIMES THE HEIGHT OF MY SITTING HEIGHT WTF?!?!?!? I really want us to win our debate! We only need to win this debate and we're through to the quarter finals which would be the day after the ball haaaaa fantastic.

3. My quadrilingual abilities motherfuckerzzzzzz

I got into a weird mood and tried to speak mandarin Chinese to my mum and just went on a ramble for 45 minutes and she looked like she was going to lose her shit and check herself into a mental asylum because I mean just imagine listening to someone who is terrible at english stumble around speaking with terrible pronunciation for three quarters of an hour hahahaha. I found it fun though lol I NEVER talk in mandarin! We speak in shanghainese at home, and I was actually surprised that I could speak that long in mandarin and be able to just blab on about anything. I used to think my french was better than my chinese but after tonight I definitely know that my chinese is still better than my french because I would NOT be able to talk in French for that amount of time whilst maintaining a constant stream of consciousness in French.

#extra 4 : I answered a question today in chapel and I'm super proud of myself for being able to coherently express my ideas without stumbling/stuttering/fucking up my grammar in front of my whole year level and the principal!!! And according to (i think it was) Meilin I made a lot of sense and had a good point, compared to some of the other people answering.

#extra 5: I showed my brother the Yerin baby videos (the one where she's asleep and waking up, and the one where she gets scared by her dad's growling noises) and he was totally grinning ear to ear but played it off as a grin where he was like "wtf this is so dumb lol i cant believe ur showing me this" rather than a "THIS IS SOOO CUUUUUUUUTE", but it was totally the latter. I wanted to show him more but he said he'd punch me if I didn't get out of his room, to which I replied "if you feel like you need to punch something in order to feel manly again, that's totally cool too" lol. I ALSO SHOWED CERYS IN OUR FREE TODAY AND I'VE GOTTEN HER HOOKED!!!!!!

a strange inclination towards male choir directors

7/08/2013

1. tutored maths and felt so good about it because we got through three different things (ratios, sig figs, expanding brackets) and she went from getting 40% in mathletics and not understanding it to getting 100% and being able to do it in her head and only in half an hour and I was just SO PROUD but trying to act cool hahahah

2. the choir director from kings has come to our school as a student teacher and he came to listen to our choir rehearsal (which was terrible) and at first I was like ~*~*ooh LACHIE HAS COMPETITION *~~*~ because he dresses really well and he's very lean and reminds me of James Blake but then he started talking and he seems really pretentious and he doesn't smile very much and seemed like a total downer. I should've known, lachie can never be replaced**~&~&*!*!*~*~*

but seriously what is with these schools and their aesthetically pleasing choir directors?!??!!

3. ummm pretty stoked i managed to come up with 500 words of bullshit for my supervised writing today!!! even though it's all terrible and a complete train-of-thought essay!!! it usually takes me 3 hours to write an essay so i'm proud of myself for getting that much done in that short period of time and not being a perfectionist :)

extra round feat. lachie: YEAH YOU'VE MISSED THIS HAVEN'T YOU?! oh my god he changed his dp!!!!!!!!! i just went on his fb and the dp is now him in choir with a terrible patterned choir shirt and he's singing an "o" so he is doing a questionable facial expression that makes me want to do an "insert here" joke but i'm too mature for that so i wont ofc buT I HAD TO STIFLE A LAUGH OH JESUS LACHIE LOOK AT YOUR LIFE LOOK AT YOUR CHOICES

teachers and tutors

6/08/2013

1. At the end of french I went into class to get my book and Mdm asked me if I was doing alright in IB and coping and I was like "yeah but damn FRENCH IS HARDDDDDD". She's so caring and genuinely interested in the wellfare of her students. It makes me so happy. I had just been talking about this yesterday (I think?), and today as well with Cerys (Cerys and I had a big long dmc about IB and work and aspirations and shit in free period today that made me super depressed but was therapeutic for her as she got to let it all out... ONTO ME)

2. After school I had a tutoring session with Grace and we just basically talked about The Great Gatsby for the whole hour. She's doing the movie for her personal response and she's reading the book atm as well, and it's pretty perfect for me because yesterday I had just finished it and I also had a discussion thingy in schol at lunch! So I could offer her some newly-learnt insights lol. Felt like a little book club.

Speaking of tutoring, I think I might make it my long term project since I do it for two people and it requires a lot of planning and seems like it'll be pretty long term. I might also do a study group thingy with Elaine for bio which I hope will count as well.

3. Showed Amy (bro's gf) my ball dress and she said she really liked it! Talked accessories with her and hopefully she'll be able to find some necklaces that might suit my dress. And she has a clutch that would work with my dress yaaaaay!

raw sunlight

See, I would do a separate post for yesterday except yesterday pretty much consisted of

1. choir sounded p good
2. chem study productiveness
3. chem study-induced insanity (I talk to myself in an entertaining way when I study things and get really hyper from it)

1. Classes
Did a bit of my english interactive oral in class however we didn't really get to my topic yet so I don't think it counts as me having finished it. Got a bit of a rush from bullshitting english IT FEELS SO GOOD MAN i'm an english adrenaline junkie I really enjoy trying to analyse things :3

TOK was so interesting today!!! We're starting the human sciences and looking into surveys and questionnaires and how we even study the human sciences and I just find it so cool!!!

Today in English Schol we started studying the Great Gatsby and I'm super excited because I totally love the writing of it (everything's so pretty!!!) It was only Zavara, me, and Mrs L today so it was very intimate hahaha but I did definitely prefer it to the awkward hesitance Zavara and I experience when there is one of the Yr13s in the class with us. I was trying to eat my sandwich discreetly and gracefully but all the chicken and salad greens were falling out and omg I was just making a mess whilst Mrs L was like, sitting one metre away from me on the other side of the table and I was thinking I SWEAR I CAN EAT FOOD PROPERLY IT'S JUST THIS SANDWICH OK

2. Stephs Invitations
Steph made ADORABLE preball invitations and gave them out and EEP THEY'RE SO CUTE they even came in a little envelope with our name written in calligraphy and inside it's all fancy with calligraphy font and patterned shit as the background and it was just the nicest surprise! Also, our preball is crazy cheap!!! $34 only, and that's just limo ride - Steph's not asking us to pay for any preball costs! WHAT A DARLING <3

3. Productivity
Aw, I'm sure you guys love hearing about my productivity, don't you! Well, I got home and resisted going onto my computer instantaneously and instead finished The Great Gatsby and omg this part got me so bad
If that was true he must have felt that he had lost the old warm world, paid a high price for living too long with a single dream. He must have looked up at an unfamiliar sky through frightening leaves and shivered as he found what a grotesque thing a rose is and how raw the sunlight was upon the scarcely created grass.
Isn't it great?!??! You know when you read things that just make you stop and reread it out loud and just kinda pause and rEFLECT ON THE BEAUTY OF LITERATURE sorry i'm getting carried  away

Anyway yeah I did a little bit of bio study (since my teacher is having some very vague lessons these days) and then did an hour of SAT (FINALLY). You should've seen the layer of dust that had collected on my SAT phonebook from the amount of time I haven't touched it.

And then I decided that was enough productivity for a day and watched Greys Anatomy and got spazzy on the couch at certain moments because of how fucking good it is (CHRISTINA AND OWEN DON'T LOOK AT ME I SHIP THEM SO HARD IT HURTS ME SO BAD also wtf everyone in the cast looks so goddamn good in long formal dresses - ball on my mind, sorry)

cute babies? more like evil spawn of procrastination

3/08/2013

I wish my weekends were more entertaining so that I didn't sound like an absolute loser but truth is I am exactly that so you're stuck with my boring weekend posts.

1. I'm not sure if this can even be count as a happy thing but it brought my temporary short term happiness (albeit, long term regret) but I spent like, 90 minutes watching the baby videos of this little korean girl called Yerin OH MY GOSH SHE IS THE CUTEST BABY/TODDLER EVER I GOT LOST IN THE CUTE AND I DROWNED IN IT

2. got a bit of work done but not enough to be feeling alright about tomorrow

3. fuck man idk, i managed to recover from my week long crippling fatigue because i slept till 11am today?

pitch perfect

2/08/2013

Not much to talk about today tbh!

1. Choir

Oh look choir is on my "3 things" again! I woke up at 7:20am this morning and had choir at 7:30am but got there at 7:45 without missing out on too much. We had a performance as well today at assembly and I think we did pretty well! We did our 3 unaccompanied pieces and when Cerys asked later on in the day if we were all perfect pitch since we all found the right note for the beginning of every pieces, but what happened was that Sophia is the only one with perfect pitch, and she hums the first note at the beginning of every song, so that we can all hear it in the choir. At the end of our performance, I had to walk out of assembly to go to my dragonboating photo and it was really awkward for me because I was right at the front of the hall, in front of the stage, and I had to just exit and walk out in front of the whole school as Mrs Robertson was talking!

2. Photo Day

I was in 9 photos today weeeeeee (rezo; cdg; saints; dragon boating; librarians; stage challenge; debating; circles; brain bee) which meant I was barely in any classes for p1-4 (not that I missed out on much tbh). For the dragonboating photo, we were all going to pull a pout but the guy heard us and told us to do two proper ones and let us have a silly photo in the end, in which I panicked and did the lamest pose possible so I can't wait to see that photo -___-

Our debating group (Cerys, Jade, Nadia, Renee, Izzy, and I) really wanted a silly photo too but I they said they were running too short on time :(

3. Bummin around afterschool

Afterschool Cerys and I were planning on doing SEC which has presentations tomorrow, but we ultimately decided that the best decision would be to pull out because it just wouldn't be possible to complete the whole presentation to a good quality by tomorrow. Especially because Aneeka wasn't free to work afterschool and Izzy wasn't either and couldn't do it in the evening today or the morning tomorrow because she has James Blake tonight (ugh lucky) and netball all day tmrw. So it would've just been up to Cerys and I so that wouldn't be very fair on us, ya know? Anyway, I'm off the topic. We planned to do SEC, cancelled it, and I had to wait for my mum to pick me up at 4pm, so I went with Cerys and Ling to the PAC where they were going to choreograph a dance routine. However, Ling was waiting for her mum to drop off dance/workout clothes so until 4 we were just fucking around and it was really fun! I can't for the life of me remember what we were even shitting ourselves laughing about BUT I remember one of them was that Ling's iphone suddenly played London Bridge, as in a shitty one handed piano version of the classic ones - not the Fergie one as we expected and it was fucking hilarious. It sounds stupid but think you had to be there. My throat hurts and I have the need to cough after I laugh too much omg I'm like an old fragile lady now.

Post the picture on the actual website with the model wearing the dress instead of taking a new photos if you're finding it hard to get a good photo!! on pigeon flirtin', pigeon kissin', pigeon lovin'!
ugh yeah I would do that except the model wears the white dress and I ordered a lilac dress. Also, the model photo of it looks SO different and SO MUCH BETTER than my actual dress. You can imagine my disappointment :(

What do you do in tutoring? (: on dead living trees
well, for english tutoring I usually just go through unfamiliar texts and discuss them with the girl (Grace) and we kinda go through the process of working through a text like asking yourself questions and using structures that help you think in a certain way (what is the writer's purpose?/"this helps me to imagine that...")

for maths tutoring I've only had one session with Nat but from what I've discussed with her, she seems to be unsure about a lot of concepts and hasn't had it properly explained to her (probably because the pace of the class is too fast?) so I think I'll just work slowly with her and give her a lot of exercises to get through and familiarize herself with the types of questions she'll get asked in exams. I think I might try to dig up some old kumon worksheets and get her to do those as well hahaha (is that illegal?!)

dead living trees

1/08/2013

i have a killer headache and just found out that i have chemistry homework to do so this is gonna be short with no capitals because capitals takes effort for me to press the shift key and i just don't ahve the time or energy oh look typo TOO FUCKING BAD

i can still press the caps lock key though ofc

1. I'VE GOT THE NEW BLACK BALL DRESS YAAAY my mum went and bought it and texted me while i was at school lol. it's extremely simple but it makes me look classy! (as all black dresses do)

2. Had first tutoring session with my maths girl, and she's really nice so I'm really hoping that I can help her out!!! I'm going to give her a shitload of homework lol poor girl

Oh look capitalisation has come back....

3. In Bio today billie said trees weren't a living thing and Mrs O was so taken aback and appalled by this statement that she did this toddler-esque jump with her fists clenched by her sides and went "nO!!!!!!!" with this shocked and horrified expression onher face and it was the funniest shit ever omg i nearly peed myself
